2008 Tennis Activities Nearly Complete
 

The 2008 tennis programe is nearly complete with the junior under 19 yrs. boys and girls singles washed out last week to be completed Wednesday evening.
The womens and mens competitions were finalised while the Friday mixed was abandoned due to the rain with Booroorban being declared winners.
Womens
The Meggs Grain and Fertilisers team of Elita Kleinig and Karene Meggs completed an amazing year from (C) grade to (A) grade champions which is an inspiration to all players. In the final the team beat The Hay Furnitures Leanne and Paula Comb 6/5 6/4.
It all came down to a tie-breaker decider when Jill Chapman and Sue Clancy won 6/2 3/6 (7/4) against the Pynors Accountants team of Jane Weymouth and Kirsten Hutchings to take the (B) grade title.
The 92 Computing (C) grade team went from strength to strength each week to win the final against last weeks Mystery team of Sally Ware and Annabelle Lugsdin 6/1 6/1.Janine Bryant was the skipper however it was Carolyn Porter who was voted the most improved to take out this weeks IGA award.
(D) grade was a good spirited final match with a win to Bindari's Heidi & Beth Schiller 6/4 6/0 against Treloars Central Servo's Julianne & Madeleine Clarke.
Mens
The Nicolas Royal team of Shane Mc Gufficke and Andrew Cronin won a tough final against Japps Pharmacy Allen Dwyer and Andrew Davies 6/4.
Individual honors  for the competition went to Tony Callaghan who was a half point ahead of Warren Hunt and Allen Dwyer who came equal second, with Glen Butler and Andrew Cronin following.
In the play off matches good wins went to Country Energy and Hay Furniture Co. while the closest win was recorded by A.Hydes Plumbing. A very enjoyable windup bbq was held following last weeks play.
Juniors
The under 19 yrs. boys and girls singles will be finalised Wed.night 17th with the revised times to be placed on the web. Last weeks awards went ANZ-Kate Stephens,O'Briens Fertilisers -Mick Harrington,Bidgee Tyre Service-Sam Oliver,Bendigo Bank Encouragement-Bernie Payne.

Tennis Finals This Week

 

All tennis competition finals are scheduled this week.
Monday Women
In (A) grade the Hay Furniture team will play the Meggs Grain and Fertilisers team who edged out the champion Nicolas Royal team on a countback when both teams finished equal second. Its been a fairytale year for the Meggs team who made their debut in (C) grade in Feb. winning the final in a tie breaker decider against the Sportfirst team at the time comprising Tess Hanna and Bronwyn Hicks.The Meggs team was promoted to (A) grade when reaching the (B) grade final in Sept. narrowly losing to the Thompsons Smash Repairs team.
Tonights (B) grade will see the Pynors Accountants team oppose Shear Outback who last week won the important clash over Anthony Hydes Plumbing team.
IN (C) grade the 92 Computing team will play the Mystery team when all will be revealed.
(D)grade will see the Bindari mother,daughter team oppose Treloars Central Servo. mother,daughter team.
Wednesday Mens
After leading for most of the competition,the Country Energy team of Mick Harrington and Tony Callaghan failed on averages to reach the final to be played between Nicolas Royal and Japps Pharmacy.Japps won their important delayed match against the Hay Bowling and Golf Clubs  Geoff Chapman and Andrew Schipp 6/3.
The Riv. Hotel & Hay Services Club teams both continue their good form,narrowly missing the final. These teams will clash this week. The match of the round last week was the Lugsdin Toyota team of Dan Tripney and Bruce Barnes winning 6/4 against Crighton Cranes. All teams will feature this week with Bidgee Construction also playing MotorMatics in their delayed match. The NIcolas Royal/Japps final has been rescheduled to Monday or Friday night .
A windup BBQ will be available this week.
Friday Mixed
Results were Hay Motors def. High School 29-14,Lugsdin Toyota def.Centrespot 24-15 and Booroorban def.Foodworks 36-12 with the IGA weekly award going to Andrew Schipp.
Juniors
The under 16 yrs. titles were completed last friday night with Kate Stephens beating Sam Oliver 6/4  and Mick Harrington beating Bernie Payne 6/1 in the finals. The under 19 yrs titles commenced last week with good fields participating. Quarter ,semis and finals will complete the titles this week.
General

The Annual meeting was held last week and it was pleasing to welcome new committee members Paula Comb, Gaylene Stephens  and Andrew Cronin.
Community Calendar
For the first time in many years the Tennis club will not produce a calender for the 2009 year.The club is aware of the current economic climate and stress of local business houses sponsorships and advertising.The tennis club this year embarked on new projects which included sign advertising at the courts.The club is likely now to produce a financial year calender with details to be outlined in the new year.

Last tennis round before finals
 

Night competitions in womens,mens and mixed will go into the last round this week with finals all scheduled next week.
Monday womens
This weeks matches are so important to determine finalists.In (A) grade the Hay Furniture should have consolidated their finals spot with a brilliant win over the Nicolas Royal,but it is the Meggs Grain & Handling team of Elita Kleinig and Karene Meggs who continue to impress this time with a win over Bidgee Tyre  and a possible finals position.In (B) grade it appears the winner of the Shear Outback and Hydes Plumbing will make the final against Pynors.(C) grade has semi finals this week,while in (D) grade Bindari is a finalist to play either Treloars Central or Robos Bakery. Heidi Schiller for her play won the IGA weeekly award.
Wednesday mens
Despite Country Energy losing its match 6/5 to the Japps Pharmacy team of Allen Dwyer & Andrew Davies, the team still leads the competition but now sharing with the Nicolas Royal Motel. Japps Pharmacy should they play their deferred match against Hay Bowling and Golf Club and win will also share the lead.The Riverina Hotel and Hay Services Club teams are closely following on the points table.Pas PIngaro had a god result last week for his team Crighton Cranes and for individual honors.
Friday mixed
Last weeks play was cancelled due to the predicted rain with the downpour coming at 8pm. All matches are scheduled at 6.30pm this week as per the updated draw sheet,to allow the AGM to proceed by 8.45.
Juniors
The only match completed in the under 16 yrs titles last week was a semi final with Sam Oliver Beating Sophie Stephens 6/1. Matches continue this week at the times advised on the web link. Also commencing on Friday night are the under 19 yrs titles.

 

Nov 24

 Booroorban unbeaten in mixed tennis
 

All three matches were close last Friday night with Booroorban now remaining the only unbeaten team after three rounds. The team was also serviced last week with Nikki Bruns and Simon Coutes who for their good play shared the IGA weekly award in beating the other co-leader Lugsdin Toyota 34-16.
Other results were High School beat Centrespot 32-25 and Hay Motors Beat Foodworks 26-24, with best results to Tania Stephenson and Amanda Kelton.
Players are reminded that all matches are scheduled to start this week at 6.30 to allow the annual AGM to be held at 8.30.
Monday Night
It's getting down to the serious end of the competition with only four points seperating the top five teams in (A) grade. Last week despite the Hay Furniture Co. losing 6/5 6/4 to the Kate Murphy, Sam Oliver -Murphys Clothing Store, the team still leads the grade.
In (B) grade the Shear Outback team of Sue Clancy and Jill Chapman has become the new leader following its 6/2 6/2 win over the Bowling and Golf Club team, with the former leader Pynors Accountants going down 6/2 6/5 to Foodworks Sarah Lobbe and Lyn Murphy.
Despite the Mystery Team losing 3/6 6/5 to Centrespot, the team still leads (C) grade from 92computing.
Bindari continue unbeaten in (D) grade with Beth & Heidi Schiller winni9ng 6/2 6/3 against D & R Kanga Hire.
Wednesday Night
Last weeks round was abandoned due to the weather with play continuing as indicated on the draw sheet for 26th. Nov. Country Energy narrowly leads the competition from Saltbush Motor Inn & Nicolas Royal Motel.
Juniors
The under 16 yrs. titles will finish this Friday night with the under 19yrs commencing the following Friday with all the current players invited to participate.
Last weeks top matches were Jordan Carney def. Jye Thompson 7/4, Lucy Pless def. Yolanda Miller 6/5. For their efforts the winners took out the Bidgee Tyre Service and O'Briens Fertilisers awards. Karinda Deaton for her 6/5 win over Sara Molloy won the ANZ award and Sara the Bendigo Banh Encouragement award.
Semi finals and finals in the main group will be contested among Alex Schipp,Bernie Payne, Jordan Carney , Mick Harrington, Sam Oliver, Sophie and Kate Stephens and Lucy Pless. All other players will play consolation matches.Matches will start from 6pm with times to appear on the web link Junior singles comp.

NOv 17

Jye Thompson third consecutive junior tennis title
 

Jye Thompson took out the Under 13 yrs. boys club singles title last week for the third consecutive year- a rare feat in this age group, by beating Tim Hanna 6/1 in the final. Sophie Stephens following in her sister Kate's footsteps won the girls final 6/3 against Amelia Maynard in a high standard match The titles this year attracted over 30 players for the past 5 weeks. Jye joins two other players who have won the three consecutive titles, these being Geoff Milliken 1974 to 1976 who later played state cricket for NSW & Stuart Callaghan 1987 to 1989 who coaches tennis in Sydney.
 
The under 16 yrs. titles commenced last Friday night played in conjunction with the adults mixed competition. A good number participated with some players receiving byes. Quarter finals and perhaps semi-finals are scheduled in two divisions this Friday from 7pm. Full draw details will appear on the website this coming Thursday. The ANZ bank award last week went to both Lucy Pless and Katie Deaton for their entertaining singles won by Lucy 6/5.
The under 19 yrs titles will commence on the 5th. Dec.
 
Meanwhile Sat. morning activities for 2008 concluded last week with the Bidgee Tyre Service award to Maddie Clarke, the O"Briens Fertilisers award to Shayla Tomkins, while Kia Viccars won the Bendigo Bank encouragement award.
 
Friday mixed comp.
The winning teams last week were Lugsdin Toyota, Centrespot and the High School teams. The bbq was enjoyed by all.

Night Tennis Report
 

After three rounds of the womens night tennis competition, the Hay Furniture co. & Nicolas Royal Motel teams share the lead in (A) grade, Ray Pynor Accountants team of Kirsten Hutchins and Jane Weymouth are on top of the (B) grade ladder, the Mystery team leads (C) grade while the (D) grade top position is shared by Robertsons Bakery & Bindari.
The unusual match of the round last week was in (B) grade with a 6/0 0/6 drawn match between Japps Pharmacy & Elders. (C) grade produced a good match with a 6/4 4/6 scoreline between Riverine Grazier and 92 Computing.
 
MENS
Country Energy(Tony Callaghan &  Mick Harrington) and Hay Services Club(Nick & Simon Maynard) both had wins last week to remain on top of the ladder.The electricity team beat the out of form Painter and Decorator team 6/2, while the services team beat the experienced  Hay furniture 6/3.
Two very close 6/5 wins were recorded by Hay Shire (Craig Wade & Blue Pearson) and Nicolas Royal (Andrew Cronin & Shayne Mc Gufficke).

MIXED
The friday mixed was cancelled due to the weather with the draw for this weeks round 14th Nov. as per the drawsheet with matches being played in conjunction with the under 16 yrs. club championship singles.

JUNIORS
This Wed.12th. will see the last wed. afternoon play for the year with play being transferred to Friday nights in sharing with the adults competition. It will commence Friday 14th. with the draw soon available on the website.
Under 13yrs club championship quarter final results to hand are Thomas McGufficke def. Ryan Burgess 6/4, Tim Hanna d. Jordan Neill 6/2, Zac Molloy d Toby Crighton 6/2, Heidi Schiller d Lucy Pless 6/5, Amelia Maynard d Heidi Stephens 6/2
Last sat.mornings play was cancelled with junior activities scheduled this saturday at 9am.

GENERAL
Awards last week went to Tom LILburne(Bidgee Tyre),Hugo Fraser(O'Briens Fertilisers),Connie Andrews (ANZ) and Sara Molloy (Bendigo Bank Encouragement). The IGA adult competition award went to Phil Wilson.
The annual meeting has again been set for a Friday night 28th. nov.

Friday Night Tennis Commences
 

The Friday night tennis mixed competition commenced  last week with only three matches being played in a relaxing atmosphere enjoyed by the players and families. A seventh team has been entered in A.Hydes Plumbing team who will commence this week, with the Centrespot team receiving the bye. The under 16 yrs. club championships singles will also be held friday nights from 14th.Nov.
In last weeks mixed,Lugsdin Toyota won 33-23 over High School, Booroorban beat Hay Motors 31-21, while Centrespot beat Foodworks 36-10 with Rob Makepeace winning the I.G.A. weekly award with his results. Players can check the web.for this weeks times and are advised there will be a bbq available.
Womens
Nicolas Royal bounced back in their grade to beat the Bidgee Tyre Service 6/1 6/2 to join the Hay Furniture team of Paula and Leanne Comb on top of the ladder after second round matches. Other (A) winners were Murphys Clothing Store and The Riverina hotel.
In (B) grade the Pynors Accountants team has gone to outright leader following its strong win over IGA. Other winners on the night were Shear Outback, Elders, and Hay Bowling and Golf Club.
Six teams now comprise (C) grade with 92 Computing & the Mystery team being added. The Riverina team of Tertia Butcher & Lou Gardam had the best win, with Centrespot headed by Lara Payne also going well.
(D) grade continues in good spirit with 3 teams still unbeaten being Bindari, Robertsons Bakery and D.&R. Kanga. The match of the night in this grade was the Motormatics- Katie Deaton & Lauren Hicks win over the Saltbush Motor Inn.
Men
After two rounds involving all 18 teams in the same grade only two teams remain unbeaten these being Country Energy and Nick and Simon Maynards Hay Services Club. Individual merits also are headed by onlt two players these being Jasen Crighton(who has played as substitute in  different teams) as well as Tony Callaghan.
Juniors
The second round of the under 13 yrs titles was held on wed. with quarter finals scheduled this week for both girls and boys. The division (1) competition is now complete with Matt Blanchonette taking out last weeks ANZ award. These players will join other players to play the under 16 yrs club championships on friday nights starting next week,14th.
Conditions were good for sat.morn.activities so will again continue this weekend at 9am. Amelia Maynard took out the O'Briens Fertilisers award, Tori Cooper the Bidgee Tyre Service award while the Bendigo Bank encuragement award went to  Isabella Tumerlero.

Good start to night tennis competitions
 

A very pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere was present for the start of the womens and mens night competitions which will run for about seven weeks. The Friday night mixed comp. will commence this week.
Women
Former (A) grade champions Nicolas Royal suffered a first round defeat to the AndEarth team of Lynne Booth and Terese Mirrabelli 5/6 6/4, while the Bidgee Tyre Service team has gone to early favouritism with a blitzing 6/0 6/1 win over Murphys Clothing store. The other win in this grade went to the Hay Furniture Co. In (B) grade  the Japps Pharmacy  and Pynors Accountants both had identical score wins 6/2 6/4, while Shear Outbacks Jill Chapman and Sue Clancy had a good victory over Elders. The closest match was the Hay Bowling and Golf Clubs 4 pts. to 3 win over I.G.A. (D) grade contains a number of new players together with mother and daughter combinations, with all matches played in good spirit.The Treloars Central Servo team of Julie and Maddie Clarke had a good 6/1 6/3 win over Margaret Ilic and Katie Deaton for MotorMatics, while other winners were Robertsons Bakery , D & R Kanga Hire and Bindari. Two additional teams to (C) will bring the number to six with this grade commencing this week.
Men
For the first time all mens teams are competing in the one grade and players change partners after one set. Winning teams last week were Country Energy, Crighton Cranes, Saltbush Motor inn, Hay Shire Council, D.Y.s Bus, Bidgee Construction, Painters and Decorators, and Hay Services Club, with good performances going to Russell Curtis and Jasen Crighton. The I.G.A. weekly award went to Tex Davies not only for his good play on Wednesday butalso for his Monday nigfhts play as substitute for two teams.
Mixed
The competition will commence this Friday with the draw available soon on the web link.Wendy Heerey is organising the weekly BBQ.
Juniors
The first round of the annual  under 13 yrs. club championships commenced last wed. with the majority of players receiving byes. The weekly competition still continues for division (1).The ANZ bank award went to Thomas McGufficke who continues his good form in beating Hugo Fraser and remains unbeaten.The under 16 yrs club championships will be played on Friday nights in a few weeks time.
Very few were in attendance last Saturday morning however will still continue this week at 9am.The Bidgee Tyre Service award went to Luci Lugsdin, and the O,Briens Fertilisers award to Sarah Loveridge while Amber Tumerlero won the Bendigo Bank encouragement award.

Oct 19

Night tennis commences this week. Mixed next week.    

The new night tennis competitions in mens and womens  commences this week to run for seven weeks.The mixed will commence the following week.
The monday womens entails 30 teams in 4 grades with details already posted on the clubs website. A few changes will be made with all (c) grade teams having a bye this week
Mens
The wednesday mens has attracted a field of 18 teams all placed into the one grade with the format to be the same as last competition where players change partners after one set. The draw will appear on the website this week.
Mixed
Only six teams have entered the friday night competition with three teams looking for male players and one team looking for a bye this week so hopefully will all be organised to commence next week and welcome at least two additional team entries. Some women are looking to join teams(contact tony for info.) 
Juniors
This wednesday afternoon sees the commencement of the junior singles club championships with the under 13 yrs. starting for all players born 1996 or later.
Last week saw the conclusions of the weekly competition singles for divisions (2) to (7) with the winners as follows- div.2 Amelia Maynard,3Heidi Schiller and Madeleine Clarke shared, 4 Tim Hanna,5 Thomas McGufficke, 6Lucy Pless, and 7 Heidi Stephens. Division (1) is still continuing with some div 2 players joining. Some players will receive byes this week. The full draw will appear on the website.
Only a small number attended the Sat. morning activities with Kelcey Anderson again taking out the ANZ award with her tough cricket tennis play. River Anderson won the O,Briens Fertilisers award to progress to the wed. afternoon singles play while Laura Cox won the Bidgee Tyre Service award displaying good potential while Lisa Fattore won the Bendigo Bank Encouragement award with her first attendance.
Tennis will again be held this sat, now at 9am to 10.30.

 

Tennis entries close this week

 

Entries for the forthcoming mens,womens and mixed competitions close this week.
 
The draw will then be placed on the clubs website www.haytennis.92computing.com  with all competitions commencing next week.
Meanwhile Deb Cronin continues her good form and will be hard to beat as the clubs nomination for this years sportsperson of the year contest.Deb won her opening singles in the annual open tournament against very strong opposition.Earlier she won the tennis treble i.e.the club championships singles,doubles and mixed with Liz Hicks and Andrew Cronin, the first woman since Wendy Heerey did it in 1977. The last person to do it was Tony Callaghan in 1999 with Derek Mc Farland and Kirstie Skene. Two other players have achieved the feat being Steve Longworth in 1989 with a youthful Warren Hunt and Wendy Heerey and the legendary David Davies with juniors Scott Morphett and Jane Dancey in 1980.
 
Juniors
The junior boys and girls wednesday afternoon singles competition resumes this week with the draw on the website.Early matches are from 4pm.
Saturday morning junior tennis resumed last week with the following awards given.(ANZ bank) Danielle Deaton,(O,Briens Fertilisers) George Ware, (Bidgee Tyre Service) Melissa Fattore, (Bendigo Bank Encouragement) Catriona Fraser. Thanks goes to those parents who are assisting.
Play will continue this saturday again commencing at 9.30 and concluding at 11am.
 

Oct 1 New Tennis competitions

 

After a break of three weeks new night competition entries for monday womens, wednesday mens and friday mixed will close next week.
Full details of all these competitions are outlined on the clubs website. The mens competition looks like it will continue under the same system as last comp. with players swapping partners after a set. The friday mixed comp may entail two grades depending on the number of teams entered. It will also have its weekly bbq.
Juniors
The draw for next weeks wed. afternoon junior singles competition is now on the web link. The following wednesday a start will be made on the under 13 yrs club championship singles.

 

General
Chris Letcher and Maddison Gregor who both had success at the Hay open tourney last week have both reached the Wagga open with their finals scheduled Monday. In winding up the Hay open, many favourable comments have been received for all those persons who contributed in some way or another from kitchen helper to raffle organiser etc.

Open Tennis Tourney Entries Closing and Deb. Cronin wins tennis treble championship

 

Entries for this years open tennis tournament, the major sponsor being the Bowling and Golf Club. close on Sunday 21st. Sept. Entries are to be made online with entry forms also available at the clubhouse. The courts and surrounds are looking good thanks to the working bees and Hay Shire Council. All help will be appreciated over the tourney weekend of the26th. to 28th Sept. A comprehensive report will be given next week.
 

Meanwhile on the local scene Deb Cronin becomes the first female to win the singles,doubles and mixed club championship titles in the one year since Wendy Heerey achieved this feat in 1977. Wendy partnered Bev Lugsdin and Roger Murray while Deb Completed her mixed win with husband Andrew beating Donna Wade and Tony Callaghan in the final 6/4 6/1.Earlier in the week Deb and Liz Hicks had a great 7/5 7/5 win over Trish Jamieson and Leonie Laracy in the womens final.
 
Womens Comp.
(A) grade co-leaders in each division are Nicolas Royal,Northfork,Hay Furniture Co. and Bidgee Tyre Service with individual leadership being held by Jasmine Gregory,Paula Comb and Deb Cronin. Three teams share the lead in (B) grade these being Hay Bowling and Golf Club, Centrespot and Anthony Hydes Plumbing, with Kerrie Rennie outright leader in the individual points.In (C) grade the Riverine Grazier lead, with Marg McClelland, Jodi Anderson and Amanda Kelton sharing the individual top list.(D) grade sees Robertsons Bakery and D& R Kanga Hire leading with Elley Booth, Amelia Maynard and Lauren Hicks co-leaders.

Mens
A number of matches were not played due to other activities on wed. night. The IGA weekly award goes to Justin Creighton who heads the individual points as well as his team the Riv. hotel sharing the comp.lead.

Juniors
There were some great singles matches this week with Sophie Stephens winning the ANZ weekly award and Liam Woods taking out the Bendigo Bank encouragement award. The Griffith East Public school tennis team who earlier in the year beat Hay in the Riverina Semi- final went on to win the state title winning the final in convincing fashion.

New type of Tennis competitions a nice change
 

The majority of tennis players have welcomed a change of format being used now for a short competition, before the Bowling and Golf Clubs annual open tennis tournament.  The competition is being played for honours not only for the team but for individual points by team members opposing each other in the second set.
In the womens competition, opening round played last week, the best team wins went to Hay Furniture Co., and Anthony Hydes Plumbing while the IGA weekly award went to Wendi Thompson who performed well for her own team as well as helping out the Shear Outback team. Matches continue Monday night from 5.30pm.
The mens competition has two (A) grade leaders sharing,these being DYs bus service and Japps Pharmacy and in the combined (B) to (D) grades where 15 teams are doing battle three teams share the lead being the Riv.Hotel, the Bowlo & Golf Club and Hay Motors. The best win of the night went to Crighton Cranes with Glen Butler returning to the scene with good play. Individual leaders in all grades are Andrew Davies, Warren Hunt and Justin Creighton.

Club Champs.
The mixed semi finals were completed last Friday with Tony Callaghan and Donna Wade having a tough win 6/2 7/5  against Allen Dwyer and Casey Wade who had earlier beaten Liz and Bert Matthews 6/2 6/3. The other semi went to three sets with Deb and Andrew Cronin winning 4/6 6/2 6/2 over Gaylene Stephens and Andrew Davies.All pairs which includes play-offs and consolations will be played this week with all details expected on the weblink monday. Following injuries and sickness the womens doubles is to be played this monday.
Junior Comp

Juniors
The wed. boys and girls singles stated last week with a good entry of 40 players in eight divisions. There were some exciting matches with Daniel Booth beating Hayden Deaton 9/8, Jye Thompson winning 6/5 against Sophie Stephens and Casey Wade hanging on to beat Bernie Payne 9/7. Other good wins were recorded by Hugo Fraser,Lisa Cai, Matt Blanchonette, Thomas McGufficke Lucy Pless and Yolanda Miller.Ryan Burgess won the ANZ award. This week all students from Hay Public School will have a bye due to their evening musical play.

Sat.Morning

The sat. morning activities last week  had good weather with awards as follows-Kelcey Anderson-O,Briens Fertilisers,Melissa Fattore-Bidgee Tyre Service,with the Bendigo Bank Encouragement award to Kia Viccars. There will be a four week break now before tennis resumes on 11th. oct.

Hunt & Clarke take Tennis Doubles
 

Warren Hunt again proved a formidable doubles partner when he and Tim Clarke, playing together for the first time, beat Andrew Cronin and Shayne McGufficke in a strong final win 6/2 6/3. Last year Hunt teamed with Andrew Davies to win the title and last week Hunt extracted the best out of Tim Clarke who had a blinder.
The womens final between Leonie Laracy and Trish Jamieson against Deb Cronin and Liz Hicks is scheduled this week.
In womens group playoff matches last week, the pick of the night was Debbie Darlow Woods and Jess Tomkins 6/4 6/4  win over Casey and Nicole Wade.
The Harrisons IGA awards went to Terese Johnson and Jasmine Gregory who go from strength to strength.

Mens and Womens teams competitions
The new competitions will entail a new format where players play 1 set with their partner then 1 set against their partner. There will be team points as well as individual points honours. The new format commenced with the mens last week and seemed to prove popular. It seemed to be good having a change.

Club Champ. Mixed
Only one match was played last week, with four scheduled this Friday night. Details will be on the website link.

Junior competition
The singles competition will now start this week wed 3rd.being delayed through school excursions, sickness and late entries. The competition will also include the annual under 13yrs, club championship. The draw will appear on the website link.

Saturday morning
Despite the mornings activities being cancelled due to the unpleasant weather ,a bigger than normal attendance was ready for play at 10am, with rain eventually forcing a finish at 10.50am. Again thanks to those who assisted, not only at junior activities but a general working bee cleanup was also being undertaken. The Bendigo Bank encouragement award went to Karinda Deaton.
An Orientation to coaching will be held in Griffith 17 th Sept.  for anyone who is interested.

New Tennis Competitions begin this week
 

A number of new competitions will commence this week to run for only four to five weeks before the open tournament and school holidays. These comps. will be the junior boys and girls wed. afternoon singles,as well as the wed. night mens teams and friday night mixed club championships.
Entries close monday 25th.,with the womens teams to commence sept.1st.
Meanwhile all womens club champ. doubles will be completed this week except the main match between the two top seeds, which has been deferred. The mens doubles final between Warren Hunt and Tim Clarke against Shayne McGufficke and Andrew Cronin is scheduled for monday 25th.
Leanne and Paula Comb last week took out the Harrisons IGA weekly award. The pair again had a top 3 set match going down in a major semi to Trish Jamieson and Leonie Laracy 6/0 6/7 6/0. The other semi was won by the defending champions Liz Hicks and Deb Cronin 6/1 6/3 over Donna Wade and Leonie Booth.
Group winners in the consolation section went to division (1) Kerrie Bradshaw and Jye Thompson, division (2) Sally Ware and Annabelle Lugsdin, division (3) Lara Payne and Amanda Kelton. Best match in the main draw section was Julie Matthews and Tania Stephenson 6/5 5/6 (7/4) against Terese Johnson and Jasmine Gregory.
The pick of the mens matches was Justin Creighton and Peter Davies winning 5/6 6/2 (7/5) over Lloyd Jones and Brad Smith. The other close match was Damian Handford and Geoff Neill winning 8/6 in a tie-breaker decider. Andrew Schipp and Geoff Chapman got their revenge on Craig Wade partnering Mark Anderson.

Saturday Morning Juniors
Thanks goes to Beau Clarke in assisting in sat. morn. activities on the weekend.He brings the latest tennis exercises/games to Hay and the players love these.
The Bidgee Tyre Service award went to Bravien Arrudsivah,the ANZ bank honours to Alice Laracy & the O,Briens Fertilisers prize won by Brooke Arandt.
The new encouragement award brought to you by the Bendigo Bank was won by Neve Watkin.

Junior Singles
The new singles competition commences wednesday with the draw expected Tuesday. St.Marys School students years 5&6 who will be away will have byes. Please advise Tony if you have been missed.
