Significant Seeding Changes for the 2009 Australian Individual Championships
The following sections of the ITF 2009 handbook are quoted below and will apply for the Adelaide Championships.
25. Seeding
b) Grade 1-5 events
Seeding at Grade 1-
5 events shall be based on the latest
available
ITF Seniors world ranking and strictly in world
ranking order.
However, if found necessary by the tournament committees of both World Championships and Grade 1-5 events, up to two unranked players per draw can be included in the seeding. These players must not have an ITF Seniors World Ranking. In order to determine their position within the seeding list, the following should be considered: players’ head to head, players’ national rankings and/or any other relevant information available to the tournament committee.
26. Number of Seeds
The number of seeds shall not exceed the following:
For a draw of 128 or 64: up to 16 seeds
For a draw of 48: up to 16 seeds
For a draw of 32: up to 8 seeds
For a draw of 24: up to 6 seeds
For a draw of 16: up to 4 seeds
For a draw of 8: up to 2 seeds
14. Method of Ranking
To be ranked in singles a player must reach a round where points are available . The number of points available will vary dependent upon the grading of the tournament and the round reached.
The official published rankings will be calculated on a 52-week rollover system and published on a quarterly basis or as otherwise determined by the Seniors Committee. At any given time, however, only the latest ITF Seniors and Super-Seniors Championships will count for ranking purposes.
The best four singles results in ITF Seniors Circuit Tournaments listed in Grade A, Grade B and Grades 1-5 will be taken into consideration for the ranking. If two or more players receive the same number of points, their ranking will follow the number of points they scored in Grade A tournaments. If two or more players are still equal, their ranking will follow the number of points they scored in Grade 1 tournaments and so on down to Grade 5 tournaments, excluding Grade B (ITF Team Competitions).
When a player qualifies for a new age group, they shall carry over all ranking points to the new age group. These players shall be marked as “bis” on all ranking lists and should be considered for seeding along with other players in that age group. “Bis” will continue to be displayed until points won in the previous age category no longer count towards the Player's ranking.
